The Berlin Wall (A Do-Not-Miss History Lesson)

“From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has descended across the Continent. . . “ Winston Churchill, March 5, 1946, Westminister College, Fulton, Missouri. A year after the end of World War II, Winston Churchill alerted the world of a new danger rising from the East: Communism.

As Hitler’s power was being squashed a year earlier bringing the end of World War II, United States and British forces occupied Germany from the west, while Soviet Union forces (an ally) advanced from the east. These forces met in Berlin, Germany. The German population living in East Berlin quickly started fleeing into West Berlin. There was freedom, prosperity, a chance at happiness there. Not so under Soviet occupation. The Soviets built a wall to keep them from leaving their homes and fleeing to West Berlin, toward the better life they could see under British and American occupation.

That wall started what is referred to as the “Cold War” between the Soviet Union and the free world until 1991 when President Reagan’s “Mr. Gorbechev, tear down that wall! ” diplomacy led to the collapse of the Berlin Wall as Soviet soldiers guarding that wall, seeing how much better it was in West Berlin, quit shooting and joined those fleeing into West Berlin. The fall of the Soviet Union followed as its provinces broke up into Russia, the Ukraine and other nations.

Ever since then, and before, people have been fleeing Communist rule and fleeing to America. Our government is only as good as we the citizens demand it to be! When we pay no attention, become ignorant of the gem of self-government our Constitution gives us and abandon our duties of citizenship . . . when we flirt with communism (socialism, dictatorial government) ignorant of its track record of ALWAYS failing its promises to the people, we are like fish biting on a shiny artificial lure of fishermen eager to reel us in!

Why can’t the Democrat Party see that? Their weakness and greed is getting in their way. Quit falling for their propaganda masquerading as truth! They no longer champion freedom. History proves they don’t know how to run a country or an economy. Donald Trump is not the enemy. He is standing strong for freedom. We’d better join him in standing strong. Only fools keep on trying something that has always failed: that’s socialism by whatever name you call it.

Grit your teeth if you have to: vote Republican for now, despite their deficiencies. That’s all we have until either the Democrats come to their senses or a new party emerges to once again give us a choice between two parties that both believe in truth beyond what they say it is, freedom, and free enterprise (our property rights)!
